Hi, all! Sorry, I’ve been a little MIA!
With the holidays, it was just so crazy around here that I haven’t even had time to try anything new, let alone sit and blog about it!
So, since I’ve left you high and dry for a few weeks, I wanted to come back with something really strong that I know you’ll all love! Yesterday, I made THE BEST detox water ever! I’ll give you the recipe, then explain why I chose the things that I did.
- 1/2-1 carton of Organic Strawberries, sliced
- 1 bunch of Organic Red Grapes, sliced
- 1/2-1 carton of Organic Blueberries
- 2-3 small Organic Pickling Cucumbers, sliced thin
- 1 drop Peppermint Vitality Essential Oil
- 2-3 drops Lime or Lemon Vitality Essential Oil (I used Lime this time but if you don’t have it, Lemon is delicious too!)
- 1 gallon fresh filtered water
- 2-3 cups ice or refrigerate
Pour a big GLASS (don’t forget, essential oils can only be consumed out of glass – never plastic!) and enjoy!!
Now onto why I picked all those fabulous ingredients!
Strawberries – Eating strawberries has been shown to improve heart health, help with blood sugar control and even cancer prevention. They are loaded with vitamins and contain very high levels of antioxidants called polyphenols. Just one serving (approximately 8 strawberries) contains more vitamin C than an orange. (source)
Blueberries – The liver is the organ most responsible for removing toxins from the body and purifying the bloodstream, whether those toxins entered the body from foods, medications or the environment. Supporting liver function is critical to keeping the body healthy and vital. Blueberries are loaded with many of the detoxifying antioxidants that are crucial for maintaining a healthy liver. Grapes – Grapes contain procyanidolic oligomers (PCOs) that act as antioxidants. PCO is the flavonoid that gives color, juiciness and flavor to the grapes. Therefore, darker the grapes, higher is the antioxidant property and better is the detoxification. Black and purple grapes are considered to be the best for detoxification. (source)

Peppermint Oil – Considered a mild stimulant, peppermint has been studied for its ability to improve athletic performance and endurance. Chances are, reading this far into an article about weight loss, you aren’t an athlete. Baby steps and good choices will get you to your goals, though, and that’s where peppermint comes into play. As a digestive herb, the peppermint plant has been enjoyed with meals in many cultures and for countless generations. As an inhaled essential oil, it has another suggested digestive purpose: affecting appetite and caloric intake. (source)
Lime Oil – Of the well-researched citrus oils, lime, in particular, has had very promising results regarding weight loss. One study, published in 2010, observed lime essential oil both assisting weight loss and preventing weight gain. The study concluded: The data obtained in this study suggested that lime essential oil plays an important role in weight loss and could be useful in the treatment of drug-induced obesity and related diseases. Lemon Oil – Lemon contains the highest levels of limonene, the active component that brings us most of the benefits from citrus oils. Aside from the benefits for ourselves, limonene and lemon essential oil are excellent options for DIY cleaning recipes. Limonene is so beneficial, in fact, that commercial cleaning products synthesize it for their formulations! (source)
